چکیده
We use $\Delta$SYM-H to capture the variation in SYM-H index during main phase of a geomagnetic storm. define great storms as those with $\le$ -200 nT. After analyzing data that were not obscured by solar winds, we determined 11 such occurred cycle 23. calculated time integrals for southward interplanetary magnetic field component I(B$_s$), wind electric I(E$_y$), and combination E$_y$ dynamic pressure I(Q) The strength correlation coefficient (CC) between each three I(B$_s$) (CC = 0.74), I(E$_y$) 0.85), 0.94) suggests Q, which encompasses both pressure, is driving factor determines intensity results also suggest impact B$_s$ on storm much more significant than speed associated How estimate an extreme based parameters discussed.

The statistical dependence of auroral absorption on geomagnetic and solar wind parameters
Data from the Imaging Riometer for Ionospheric Studies (IRIS) at Kilpisjärvi, Finland, have been compiled to form statistics of auroral absorption based on seven years of observations. In a previous study a linear relationship between the logarithm of the absorption and the Kp index provided a link between the observations of precipitation with the level of geomagnetic activity. A better fit to...
متن کاملSolar eclipse effect on geomagnetic induction parameters
The 11 August 1999 total solar eclipse had been studied using a large array of stations in Central Europe (Bencze et al., 2005). According to the result of this study, the amplitudes of the field line resonance (FLR)-type pulsations decreased in and around the dark spot by about a factor of 2, and this decrease moved with the velocity of the dark spot in the same direction. This decrease was in...
متن کاملTwo-step forecast of geomagnetic storm using coronal mass ejection and solar wind condition
To forecast geomagnetic storms, we had examined initially observed parameters of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and introduced an empirical storm forecast model in a previous study. Now we suggest a two-step forecast considering not only CME parameters observed in the solar vicinity but also solar wind conditions near Earth to improve the forecast capability. We consider the empirical solar wind...
متن کاملThe influence of solar wind turbulence on geomagnetic activity
The importance of space weather and its forecasting is growing as interest in studying geoeffective processes in the Sun – solar wind – magnetosphere – ionosphere coupled system is increasing. In this paper higher order statistical moments of interplanetary magnetic field and geomagnetic SYM-H index fluctuations are compared. The proper description of fluctuations in the solar wind can elucidat...
متن کاملStatistical study of the substorm onset: its dependence on solar wind parameters and solar illumination
Based on 1829 well-defined substorm onsets in the Northern Hemisphere, observed during a 2-year period by the FUV Imager on board the IMAGE spacecraft, a statistical study is performed. From the combination of solar wind parameter observations by ACE and magnetic field observations by the low altitude satellite CHAMP, the location of auroral breakups in response to solar illumination and solar ...
